Christian Egyptian tycoon charged with contempt of Islam

CAIRO 10 January - A prominent businessman and political activist Egypt brought to court yesterday on charges of slander and insulting Islam after publishing controversial cartoons Internet.


 

In June 2010, Naguib Sawiris Coptic Christians also publish cartoons with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse pot wearing the niqab in the Twitter account.
A Muslim lawyer, Mamdouh Ismail, filed a complaint claiming Sawiris insulting Islam.




He said the actions of the business is seen 'deliberately to poke-sendakan clothing and symbols of Islam'.
Sawiris has previously apologized on the Internet in relation to the publication of the cartoons, saying he did not intend to cause misunderstanding and described the cartoon as a joke.
Ultra-conservative Salafist movements, however, vehemently rejected the apology.
Sawiris also established the People's Freedom Party of the people of Egypt during the last year that led to the removal of President Hosni Mubarak.

Parliamentary elections in Egypt in progress has given rise to concerns among Christians and liberal tendency of the Egyptian population in relation to Islam, the Islamic parties win in this country's first elections since the fall of Mubarak.
In 2010, Forbes magazine estimated that Sawiris has assets totaling U.S. $ 2.5 billion (RM7.5 billion) of business revenue Orascom Group conglomerate owned companies in the telecommunications industry, construction, hotels and development. - DPA
