KUALA LUMPUR, 16 April - Criminal thefts in the capital is a serious concern with the increased 99 per cent of cases within four months of this year, compared to the same period last year.Snatch thefts between January and April this year registered an increase of 600 cases of 1.206 cases from 606 cases during the same period last year.
Head of the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department, Datuk Ku Chin Wah said, other theft crimes, has increased dramatically is robbery without a gun group with 1.005 cases or 80.5 per cent increase.
''Four months of last year's record 1.249 criminal cases this year, 2.254 cases were recorded."Robberies without firearms alone was also increased by 24 percent, from 234 cases to 290 cases," he said at a news conference at police headquarters (IPK) Kuala Lumpur today.According to Chin Wah, the three accounted for 31 percent of crimes involved in the overall crime index in Kuala Lumpur as of April this year.
Mindful of such developments, he said, a massive operation was launched by the Kuala Lumpur police as proactive measures to prevent it from continuing to rise.
Chin Wah said the concept of operations "aggressive policing" that combines all the departments and branches IPK Kuala Lumpur, including the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ), JSJ Narcotics, Special Branch, Traffic Branch and the General Operations Force.
''During the operation, police will be more frequent checks on the members of the public in crime hot spots identified other roadblocks to check vehicles.''The police hope the public will understand the police and provide full cooperation, including channel information to the police,''he said.
He said the operation was started yesterday and the ministry to provide a month to see results before they are reviewed and improved if necessary for the next month.''We will also issue daily statistics that crime and the number of inspections and arrests for the broadcast media.
''This initiative is not intended to intimidate the citizens, but we want them to know the true picture of crime situation in the capital and want them to know what the police do to solve this problem,''he said.
In the first 24 hours of operation, the police make 37 arrests findings on 1.837 individuals.
